Tackling violence against women and girls remains my number one priority as Solicitor General, and there has been important work on that front.
At Solicitor General Questions this month, I answered questions from MPs on a wide range of topics.
I spoke about how we are hoping to see a national roll out of the Victims’ Right to Review pilot by the end of the summer. Because of this pilot, cases that would have been dropped are continuing, ensuring victims of rape are heard, treated with fairness and dignity.
I also answered a very important question from Kerry McCarthy on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). I was clear that FGM is violence against women and girls. It must be stopped. there have only been three successful prosecutions in this country. I thank Kerry and for raising awareness of this important issue.
This month I met with Andrea Simon, the Victims’ Commissioner for London, to discuss improving access to justice, strengthening support for victims of VAWG, and tackling court delays.
I also spoke at the Crown Prosecution Service’s Crown Advocacy event to thank prosecutors for their work in this area, and to highlight how Crown Advocates give victims a voice in court.
Earlier in the spring, the CPS launched its Stalking Action Plan 2026–2030 — something I strongly backed and wrote about publicly during National Stalking Awareness Week, urging victims to come forward and report those who have made their lives a misery.
I was also delighted to join the Attorney General and lawyers at the London Legal Walk 2026 – a brilliant event that has raised over £12.5 million for free legal advice charities since 2005. Equal access to justice matters deeply to me, and it was a privilege to be part of it.

Back in Lewisham West and East Dulwich, it’s been wonderful to get out and about and meet so many brilliant people and businesses.
I recently met with Kate and Karl at the wonderful Brockley Jack theatre in Crofton Park. It was great to hear how theatres like the Brockley Jack are supporting artists from all backgrounds to start their careers in the creative arts. I look forward to visiting again soon, this time to see a play.
I also popped into FitFor Gym, on Lordship Lane, where I heard how the gym has been serving the local community for nearly 20 years.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Ivan and the team at Westwood House care home. It’s always good to hear about the work being done for local residents.
I also visited St Christopher’s Hospice. It was lovely to deliver a donation raised by my local street party, and to meet the team. St Christopher’s are a wonderful cause and do so much for our local area.
I also met with TfL, alongside Vicky Foxcroft, to discuss the reduced bus service for the 484 and to raise awareness of our brilliant petition to extend the 63 bus route. It was a positive meeting and I will keep pushing TfL for local constituents.
On a national policy note, I’m extremely pleased that this Labour government is banning social media for under-16s. As a mum of a pre-teen, it’s the thing that keeps me up at night, and I know many of my constituents feel the same. That’s why I called for a ban, and I am delighted we are implementing one.
