At the reshuffle, I was delighted to be appointed Solicitor General. It was a great honour to serve as Chair of our Labour Party.  But as a former trade union lawyer, I am pleased to now have been appointed Solicitor General. It is an important and unique role, as one of the Government’s law officers.

At the beginning of the month, I was formally sworn in as Solicitor General in the Royal Courts of Justice. The Solicitor General’s primary role is to advise the government on legal matters and policy.

My priorities in the role are:

  • Supporting our mission to halve violence against women and girls.
  • Use technology and AI to modernise the justice system and improve the support for victims.
  • Further the work of the Serious Fraud Office to tackle economic crime and return money stolen from fraudsters to the public.
  • Promote diversity across the legal professions.

I cannot wait to get started and make a real difference.

Community Visits

I had a wonderful time visiting Lewisham College, hearing about their fantastic courses and opportunities for people of all ages, including catering, construction, health and social care. It was really lovely to speak to students about their passion for their courses and future aspirations.Ellie talking with students at Lewisham College

I had a great time at Brent Knoll School in Perry Vale. It was brilliant to see their super facilities and to talk to the kids about Youth Clubs, homelessness, and being an MP. I also heard from staff about the rollout of their new Breakfast Club, thanks to the Government’s Plan for Change.

I also visited two brilliant local restaurants in the constituency, Kartuli on Lordship Lane and Marchetti on Stanstead Road.
